Silver & Ink Weekend Extravaganza

So this past weekend was SCAD’s Photography Department’s Silver & Ink Exhibition, and first annual portfolio reviews. Alec Soth (forgive me for spelling this wrong oh anonymous commenter – the “x” is right next to the “c” on the keyboard ) was a guest speaker, as well as a number of alumni and business professionals. All in all it was a fantastic weekend, including some quality time with the alumni and professors at “Hang Fire”. Enjoy the photos.

Photo Contests & VIEWERS CHOICE!!

I need your help my fantastic blog readers and viewing public! (I pretend there are a ton of you, because technically, I can’t prove otherwise)

I have entered two photo contests today:

1) PDN’s “Faces” Contest – A fantastic contest based soley on portraits. Luckily for me, they allow animals/pets too. Wheeew!

2) FotoWeek DC’s “fotobama” Contest dealing with the election of 2008.

There are “viewer’s choice” awards/categories for both contests – and I would be honored if you would stop by the pages (I’ll put the links up) and give me your vote. I mean, I’m gonna win both contests anyway, but your vote couldn’t hurt . Just kidding. Seriously though, go vote for me. Now.

Project Tandem Visit…..

So I’m a little late with this post, but I though that I could let everyone know how amazing my visit was with the members of Project Tandem. We ate, we drank, we were merry, and enjoyed hanging out at the house, and attending the show openings on friday, as well as a few of savannah’s best local drinking haunts. It was a blast.

For anyone that doesn’t know about Project Tandem – its an amazing, life changing, cross-country bicyling event taking place by two faboulous phtographers – Morrigan McCarthy and Alan Winslow- who are riding around photographing and interviewing people all across the USA on their thoughts, feelings, and attempts to help our environment. Off to the City of Angels…….

While many if not most people that read this blog have already heard the news:

I will be interning for Lauren Greenfield during the months of December, January & Febuary. So I’ll be heading out to LA in the near future after the Fall quarter at SCAD finishes up. Its a really awesome opportunity, and I can’t wait to see what the futures holds!

I’ll be updating the blog as often as I can with my adventures on the west coast!

Nachtwey & TED Grant…… COMING SOON!

There is an important event coming up, one that I think should be on everyone’s radar. First, A little background. James Nachtwey is the biggest inspiration for me, hands down. His images in Time are the reason that I decided to go into Photojournalism. While he remains soft-spoken and humble, his images speak volumes about the injustices and conflicts he is witness to.

In 2007, he was the recipient of the TED grant – more complete info is available @

Here is his acceptance speach, and his ideas for a project he hopes that we all can contribute to the viewing and dissemination of.

In 2 days, his story is reveled and will be shown all over the world, through TED and its partners, and online.

I think we should all check it out.
